- In the fall of 1942, when Chaim and his brother Majer were away, their mother, Chaim's wife, and his 1-5-year-old child were taken on a transport. When the brothers returned from work, Chaim decided they too must go to the camp, as the women couldn't cope on their own. They reported to the Umschlagplatz. They reached Treblinka, where they learned it wasn't a labour camp. During selection, they and their brother were chosen to sort clothes. At the end of the day, they hid in a train car with 16 other Jews and escaped from Treblinka.
