- In 1942, during the liquidation of the ghetto, the Germans carried out a selection in the town square. The family was brutally separated. Józef and his father Abraham were deemed fit for work and sent to the forced labour camp in Starachowice. Rachela and the remaining children were loaded into cattle wagons and deported to the Treblinka extermination camp.
