- He was a wealthy importer of hides throughout Poland, the owner of the company "Amco" and large warehouses. In November 1939, the Gestapo confiscated Meir’s warehouses. Shortly afterwards, Meir was summoned for interrogation and returned four days later as a "shadow of a man" – after severe torture he was completely broken physically and mentally. "He survived the ghetto uprising. And later, when they found him, he was deported on the penultimate transport to Treblinka. My father [died] on the ramp; he never even made it to the gas chambers. They shot him on the ramp. They set a dog on him. He had not yet been shot dead. The dog dragged him. There was some place where the dog dropped him. And that is where he died."
