- Notes
- Szlomo ran a successful tailoring workshop that employed twelve workers and operated eight sewing machines. He also served as a cantor (chazzan) in the synagogue and led prayers. Well known in the local community, he practiced cupping therapy (used to treat colds and pneumonia) and performed rituals believed to remove the evil eye. On December 13, 1939, the family was expelled from Łódź. They passed through several towns and ghettos — Kraków, Tarnów, Białobrzegi, and Mogielnica. In July 1942, Szlomo’s son Jakow was taken for forced labour on the construction of power lines. He returned home only on Sundays. In November 1942, after a day when the workers were not brought back, Szlomo learned from Polish labourers that all the Jews from Mogielnica had been taken away. Shortly afterward, Szlomo and his wife Bracha, together with their three children — Doba, Raizel, and Meir Jechiel — were deported to the Treblinka extermination camp, where they perished.
