- Notes
- "One day proclamations appeared to the Jewish population that labour camps had been set up in Trawniki and Poniatowa, whoever volunteered would get 3 kg of bread and 1 kg of marmalade per head. People were so starved, so weakened morally, that they began to believe in these miracles. If they give work and food, that's good. A lot of people went for the sticky, including my uncle, my father's brother Lejzor Blacharski and his family: his wife and two children, Kuba and Salusia. [...] Finally someone escaped and returned to the ghetto. and what did it turn out? No labour camps, just death camps, and the biggest and worst one was Treblinka."
