- Notes
- They had two sons of draft age in 1939 and 1938, Zewek and Hylek. Zewek – is Zew, in Hebrew translated as wolf. Hylek, I do not know the source of his name, but that's what he was called. Hylek was blond and passionate about horses. I suppose that living in Włochy gave him more opportunities to have contact with horses than he would have had in Warsaw. Both sons enlisted in the army in 1939, when the war broke out: the siege of Warsaw was already under way. Zewek and his friend appeared at home both wearing uniforms and carrying riffles. And I remember that they both left for battle. After a few hours they returned home. There was no command, there was no building, the bombardment was already in progress.
