- He ran a thriving and well-stocked general store that sold clothing and leather goods, among other things. The family was considered wealthy, and their financial situation was very good. During his time in the ghetto, Joshua became a member of the Judenrat, composed of approximately 15 of the town's most respected figures. In early 1941 or 1942, following a tip-off about alleged sabotage, he was arrested and deported to Auschwitz. His family later received a telegram informing them that he had died of a "heart attack."
