Notes
He was an accountant, born in Opatów, a "very gentle and very kind man," and in his youth a teacher and a great scholar. He was a "fervent Zionist" and a deeply religious Jew who provided his daughter with a comprehensive education and instilled in her a love of literature. The family moved from Opatów to Warsaw in 1933 because of his job as chief accountant at Kantoria, a company that moved its headquarters to the capital. During the war in 1940, they were smuggled out of the Warsaw ghetto to Opatów, where Kantoria was still operating.
