Notes
Owner of a textile shop. The shop was located on the main street in Kozienice. The whole family, including Celi's mother and sisters, helped run the business. On the last night before the deportation, Jakob Hirsz prepared backpacks for each child with a few items, including two gold coins. Trains arrived in the town and the Germans surrounded it. Jakob Hirsz sensed death. He said, "This is death. If I didn't have a wife and children, I would fight." He insisted that Cela and her sister leave the house and go to work, using her older sister's work card. Cela and her sister left crying. They never saw their family again.
