Notes
Judka was the owner of a tannery and a leather workshop. In the ghetto, he received a "life card" as a skilled worker employed in the tannery. One day, toward the end of 1942, during one of the mass round-ups in the ghetto, the family was hiding in cellars and attics. Trusting in the protection of his certificate, Judka decided to leave his hiding place and go downstairs. His wife and daughter never saw him again; he disappeared without a trace. After the round-up, they learned from others that he had been taken onto a train bound for Treblinka. This information came from men who had managed to jump from the same transport and who had seen him in the wagon. According to another account, he was deported to Treblinka on 18 January 1943.
