Notes
"When the blockade began, Dr Helman, who had a certificate of release from Pawiak as a hostage, decided to go down and show this 'safe conduct pass' to the gendarmerie. He was sure that he would be immediately released. His younger daughter, 18 years old Halina, who loved her father very much, went with him together, afraid to leave him alone. [...] Mrs. Helman, seeing that her husband and younger daughter are not coming back, she went downstairs, and her older daughter, Dancygier from Lodz, went after her. [...] The entire Helman family was taken away. It is hard to imagine the suffering of Mrs. Dancygier's husband, when he came home, and the wife he adored was not there."
