- During the liquidation of the Piotrków ghetto, Gitla and her youngest son, Pinchas, were imprisoned with other women and children and then deported to the Treblinka extermination camp. Saul and his remaining brothers watched from the factory roof as the train carrying their mother and brother departed the city.
